If I went to purchase a 5'4 template (5'4L) would I be able change the shape of the tail? For example I want a round tail on the 5'4L instead of squash.
Yes you can alter the shape in any way you want. The surfboard outline tempaltes are proven curves that work great but you are encouraged to experiement with shapes to really learn how surfboards work and design them to make you a better surfer.
How do I know the width of the template?
We designed the templates to be any width you want by moving it closer to the stringer for a narrower board or further for a wider board. We believe you should have control over the design and dimension of your board and not be locked into a board that is designed for someone else.
Our templates are mostly all about the curve and the flow of water around the plan shape. Width dimensions only determine the rail-to-rail stability of the board.
For the 5'6'' B is there any information you can give on the volume depending on how far from the stringer the template is. Obviously the further from the stringer the higher the volume. But can you give any numerical values or will I have to experiment on my own.
Greenlight Surf Supply Surfboard Outline Templates are designed for the home surfboard shaper to have an easy to use outline for the shape they desire, We do not have or provide and "volume" as these are just outline templates.
Can you make the 5’7”M longer? And if so by how much? I love the out line but would like to have a little more Length maybe up to 6’2”. Thanks
The surfboard templates can grow in length by cutting the middle and moving them apart. Sketch by hand the missing portion of the curve between them. When you cut the outline it will be a smooth and continuous curve.
What is the meaning of the letters (ex. 5'0''W, 5'4''L, ...) after the length of the board?
The letters on the surfboard templates just indicate a different shape if two or more are the same length.
Does it come with a rocker template?
Sorry we do not supply rocker templates. There are no standard dimensions for a surfboard rocker (along the stringer) since it all depends on the waves you surf and how you want the board to perform.
Stock surfboard blanks have proven rockers that are a great starting point and maybe a little adjustment is needed while shaping to get the desired rocker you want to surf.
Extensive info on ROCKER can be found in our Surfboard Design Guide
If i want a 5 foot mini simmions how would I design it
Cut 8" from the middle of the 58MS template
I like the 5'4 shape but what if a want it a little bigger is there any way to alter the length but keep the general shape.
You can modify the length and width of the templates by assembling the template and cutting the paper at the midpoint and move the 2 template parts away (or closer) the extra distance and sketch the continuous curve between them. When cutting and squaring up the outline on your blank the curve will flow and you'll get the length board you want.
