Do you have specific gravity (density) information for these materials? I like to mix by weight using a small lab scale, but I need to know the specific gravity to convert volume to weight.
Greenlight Marine Grade epoxy resin is a 2 to 1 mix ratio. You can use our resin chart linked here
Can I use this resin for a gloss-coat and then fine sand/polish it? I tried using this resin before and got a bunch of gaps in the coat where the resin didn't surface evenly, I'm not sure why it happened either. I made sure to remove all dust and debris before applying the resin too.
Greenlight Marine Grade Epoxy Resin is te ideal epoxy resin to use for lamination, seal coat, and gloss coat. Typically when epoxy "voids", "fisheyes", or does not cover an area it is due to oils or dirt in the lamination or on the surface you are trying to over with epoxy.
All finished products that are going to be covered in epoxy resin of any type should be handled with clean gloves once the project is finished and ready for the epoxy process.
I recently made a surfboard using materials from Greenlight. Everything was great, except after only two sessions on my board (which I tinted blue), it turned light brown. Does this color change effect the structural integrity of the board? Thanks, Maverick
Yellowing from strong sun exposure does not and will not change the integrity of your board construction. Everything will remain the same and you should not have any issues.
I accidently got a drop or two of hardener in my resin bottle. Will this ruin the resin or only harden a small bead of it and the rest will be okay?
The Greenlight Marine Grade Epoxy Resin should be fine if there was only a drop or so of hardener that fell inside. This being a 2:1 mix ratio nothing should happen to the resin component.
Will this melt through polyuethene foam?
Greenlight Marine Grade Epoxy Resin System with FAST HARDENER is safe to use on Polyurethane foam and is actually the preferred resin for use on PU blanks by the Greenlight Surf Supply Team.
Do you recommend using additive f?
When using Greenlight Surf Supply Marine Grade Epoxy you do not need to use Additive F.
Does this resin produce any amine blush when it cures, or is it a fully non-blushing system? My final ("gloss") coats are epoxide, silane & cyclic siloxane-borne ceramics, so any blushing matters.
All Amine based hardened epoxies are subject to blush. High humidity (damp) and cool environment may cause blush to happen on the surface. Slow curing epoxies are less susceptible to blush.
If blush occurs it can simply be removed with warm water and Scotch Brite pad and wiped clean with a paper towel.
What is the window for re coating Marine grade epoxy with slow hardener with out sanding? Will I have to sand it after 24 hours of laminating coat?
No need to sand the lamination at any point with the Marine Grade Resin. The seal coat will bond properly any time.
For how long can I stock this product without it damaging? which are the ideal conditions for keeping it (temperature , humidity , light exposure )? approximately how many shortboards cut I glass with 3 gallons kit? thank you so much
The Marine Grade Epoxy Resin has a 2 year shelf life when kept in tightly closed containers at room temperature. If the resin temperature gets below 65F it may start to crystalize but can be heated to fully reliquify at any time.

No you cannot mix different brand epoxies, it will not harden. You can use different epoxies on top of each other as separate operations. For example, laminate with Kwick Kick and seal coat with Greenlight Marine Grade Epoxy Resin System
Would this be compatible with traditional RR epoxy? For example, if I wanted to use this for my gloss coat over a traditional RR hot coat? If so, would additive F be suggested as well?
Yes Greenlight Marine Grade Epoxy System is compatible with all other epoxies and will bond permanently to laminations with Resin Research. No Additive F is needed with Greenlight Marine Grade Epoxy System.
When would you use a quick curing resin vs. a slow curing resin?
Slow Epoxy resin for beginners so you have plenty of time before it starts to cure, large projects, and pours more than 1/4" thick. Fast hardener for everything else.
